NEW items from Pili Pala (and shhh…reductions too!)

Over at Team DCB we’ve well and truly got our work cut out at the moment with all the arrival of new Spring/Summer 2011 stock, which seems to have landed on our doorstep all at once! Our humble abode is now resembling a warehouse more than ever before as Mr DCB and I trip and tumble over boxes of beautiful new things! We’re trying to get it all online as fast as we can whilst trying to keep up with the daily grind which doesn’t leave as much time for DCB as we’d ideally like. However, this weekend I did make some inroads and managed to upload the beautiful new clothes recently received from our fave Welsh brand, Pili Pala.

In Welsh, Pili Pala means “butterfly” and this is beautifully represented by their clothing – on the one hand, bright and beautiful colours designed to stand out, on the other hand, a range designed to last from season to season and be handed down from sibling to sibling. We’ve taken delivery of their latest designs which include some great red and navy striped dresses and leggings, along with contrasting plain red t-shirts and dresses. There is also a super cute baby vest in navy and red, which can be matched up with hats to make a perfect new baby gift.

Customers always comment on the softness of organic cotton clothing and Pili Pala is no exception. We’re also frequently asked whether it is daywear or nightwear (in the case of the trousers/leggings/tshirts) to which we say “you decide”. It’s comfy and cosy for lounging around casualwear, but durable and warm enough to play around in the great outdoors. It’s also largely unisex and very mix ‘n’ match which makes it even better value for money as it can be swapped around from sister to brother and back again!! We really can’t compliment the brand highly enough, and being made right here in the UK it goes to show that you don’t have to have a large carbon footprint to get good quality organic cotton clothing at fair prices.

Don’t forget, we’ve also got reductions on some of the Pili Pala range with dresses reduced from £23.00 down to £11.50 and shorts reduced from £17.50 to £5.00!!! So you even have a chance to grab a piece of this fantastic clothing line at discount prices too – can’t say fairer than that!

50% off all Green Cotton AW10

We’re beavering away at the moment getting our recently arrived Spring Summer Green Cotton stock uploaded onto the website and as we do so, we’ve lowered the prices of the remainder of the autumn-winter collection by 50%. Yep – 50%!! This means most of the bits and bobs that are left are now just £8.50 per item + P&P, down from £17.00 +P&P.

For those of you not in the know, Green Cotton are a Danish brand who typically produce 2-3 extraordinarily extensive collections per year – we’d love to stock it all but unfortunately don’t have the space or budget just yet! All their clothes are of the top-notch highest quality, made from 100% organic cotton. We have several repeat customers who always head straight to the Green Cotton when we’re at market because they know the quality is second to none. Even better, GC adapt the weight of the cotton they use depending on the season, so whilst AW clothes are super snuggly, SS tend to be lighter fabric. The colours are always vibrant, the patterns kooky, retro, call them what you will but they’re nothing if not unique. So take a look and grab a bargain…and tomorrow’s post will be highlighting the new bits!

Frugal Friday

Friday night has to be my favourite time – the promise of a whole weekend stretching out in front of us and a glass of wine to celebrate getting through another working week. It’s hard to be productive but we have just created a little album over on our Facebook fanpage of some of the best bargains currently available at DaisychainBaby.co.uk. Almost everything is 50% off, so we’ve got trousers reduced to £7, playsuits reduced to £9 and rompers reduced to £8.50.

My absolute favourite of all though is this beautiful tree-design playsuit from Danish brand Green Cotton. There’s now only one left *sob* in a size 18 months, or 86 cms. Whilst we do appreciate that most people may be past putting their little girls into playsuits at this age, it does make the cutest footless sleepsuit and I freely admit that if it came in bigger sizes, I would wear one! It’s even in my favourite colours and made completely of organic cotton – super kind for precious skin.

It was £20 originally and this last one is reduced down to £10 + P&P. Enjoy!

A Spring Day Deal…enticed aren’t you?!

How beautiful is it outside today?? Too early to say spring has finally spring, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed. Some more good news is that we have half of our Little Green Radicals collection arrived for Spring/Summer so this will be a short post as we get busy putting it all onto the website!

In the meantime, how about a cheeky deal? We have 2 of these lovely blue and turquoise striped baby vests left, one in 3 months (approximately 62 cms in length) and one in 6 months (approximately 68 cms) in legnth. They are from Danish brand Green Cotton, made in lovely organic cotton. And we have it on good authority from a super customer this past weekend that they are fantastic quality and wash really well (as if we needed telling, only the best at DaisychainBaby.co.uk!)

We Love…Happy Customers

Yesterday we spent the day with our stall at Duckpond Market in Ruislip, two years since we attended our first ever event as a brand new business. Despite having now attended nearly 100 markets/fetes/fairs and other events, I never get tired of hearing positive comments about what we do and it can often just be one lovely customer who really makes our day, especially if it’s a quiet sales day (and believe us, we’ve had them!). Putting yourself out there involves either having or quickly developing very thick skin, so that in the event of a derogatory comment you don’t take it to heart and brush them aside – the nature of the business means that we will always have people who come to our stand and exclaim how expensive things are (as we always say to each other after they’ve left – compared to what? Compared to that garment being made by a 6 year old child being paid 2 pence a week? Well yes then it is expensive, but if you’re happy to dress your child in something made by another child, that’s your decision). Yet to counter that, we have so many people who come to talk to us even though they have no children to buy for, but were attracted by the bright colours of the clothing and then they feel them, Oh! They feel them. And instantly love how soft they are (that’s the difference between normal cotton and organic cotton).

One of the things which makes us so happy about being part of a regular market is how many repeat customers we have. Unfortunately we don’t have the budget to provide them with something new every month, but we try to mix it up a little bit where we can and so yesterday we only took sale items with us which seemed to go down very well. Mr DCB was on top selling form yesterday and after a quiet start to the day, I disappeared off chatting to the other lovely stallholders who are now good friends and I always look forward to seeing. On returning, Mr DCB excitedly told me about a family who had come over having bought from us a few months ago and were so thrilled with the items they bought they were back for more. Their chosen brand was Green Cotton and they couldn’t stop telling us how happy they were with the quality of the garments, how well they wash and keep their shape, and concluded that they were truly excellent value for money. They then bought another 4 pieces from the range and made not only themselves but Mr DCB and I very happy!! It then triggered a whole stream of Green Cotton sales from other customers who’d been at our stall overhearing the happy family. It can be difficult to decide what to stock, especially as we don’t have children to roadtest things, so I take feedback even more seriously. We’ve stopped holding ranges where the feedback hasn’t been as positive and now have a good core selection that we’re really pleased with. Another re-purchase yesterday was our blue and brown stripy t-shirt from Pili Pala (now reduced in our sale to make way for new collections from the Welsh brand!) – our market manager had bought one for her son and now wanted the same item in a bigger size, again because she was so pleased with it.

It’s amazing how these positive experiences can make it all worthwhile. It’s hard sometimes to always be full of beans about something like running your own business, especially when you spend a lot of time doing the very unglamourous things such as filing accounts, or when it’s a freezing cold winter day and you’re setting off for some unknown destination, not sure whether you’ll have a good sales day or not. It’s even worse when you come back from an event having had a miserable time of it and I think most people will be familiar with that “What am I doing?” thought. Thankfully, we hold on to the happy customers, their kind words and realise that it only takes a handful of these to make it all worthwhile :) We’ll leave you with a shot of a very happy customer indeed, wearing our rainbow shoes from Daisy Dumpling…a little girl with style in spades!
